ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats posted a hard-fought, 76-73 victory over the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians here Thursday night at Bobcat Gym.

The contest was tied 71-71 with 36.5 seconds remaining and Itawamba had ball possession. But JCJC’s Erica Moore stole the ball and made a layup to put the Lady Bobcats ahead for good as they improved to 4-1.

ELLISVILLE – Two more Jones County Junior College baseball standouts have signed scholarships.

Tyler Gardner, a sophomore outfielder, has signed with Delta State University of the Gulf South Conference, while Brock Landry, a sophomore infielder, has inked with the University of Arkansas-Monticello, another GSC school.

ELLISVILLE – It will be a battle of defending state champions on Thursday night in Bobcat Gym.

The Jones County Junior College men and women's teams both claimed the 2008-09 state titles, while the Itawamba Community College Indian teams both captured the crowns in 2007-08.

ELLISVILLE – Both Jones County Junior College basketball teams used a strong run late in the first half to take control of their contests here Monday night at Bobcat Gym.

The Lady Bobcats went on a 9-0 run to close the first half en route to a 75-61 victory over the Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers. In the men’s game, JCJC outscored Northeast 17-9 over the last six minutes of the half, took a 16-point halftime lead and went on to post a 93-82 decision over The Tigers.

Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball player Pauline Love has been named the first Conference USA Player of the Week.

Love, a former standout at Jones County Junior College, had 26 points and 14 rebounds as the Lady Eagles whipped South Alabama 72-53 on Saturday in the 2009-10 season opener. Love is a two-time, first-team All-C-USA selection.

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats are listed in the “Received Votes” category of the final NJCAA/JCfootball.com poll, which was released Monday afternoon.

Coach Eddie Pierce’s Bobcats, who finished the season at 6-4, received 3 votes, which would have placed them at No. 22 in the nation.

JCJC hands Alabama Southern first loss posted by Shawn Wansley on 2009-11-12 22:47:23
MONROEVILLE, Ala. – Jones County Junior College edged Alabama Southern Community College 81-78 here Thursday night.

JCJC improved to 2-1, while the Eagles lost its first game of the year and fell to 4-1.

In the women's game, the Lady Bobcats dropped a 64-62, overtime decision to the Lady Eagles.

ELLISVILLE – Zach Toney will have a chance to show his pitching skills at the Division I level.

Toney, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound Jones County Junior College sophomore, signed a scholarship with the Austin Peay State University Governors on Wednesday morning in the JCJC Media Room.

The Jones County Junior College "Basketball Media Day Special" is currently airing on www.jcjc.tv and www.jcjc.edu/athletics.

It is a 30-minute video featuring interviews with Lady Bobcat head coach Sandra Sumrall, men's head coach Don "Bubba" Skelton, school president Dr. Jesse Smith and athletic director Katie Herrington. Also featured are interviews with Ashley Lee and Dominique Evans of the Lady Bobcats, along with preseason NJCAA second-team All-American Brandon Wilson and Kendrick McDonald for the men's team.

ELLISVILLE – Tuesday's scheduled Jones County Junior College at Bishop State Community College (Ala.) basketball games have been postponed because of Tropical Storm Ida.

Bishop State is located in Mobile, Ala.

There is nothing official on when or if the games will be rescheduled.
