Six Bobcats named All-MACJC South Division

ELLISVILLE – Six Jones County Junior College Bobcats have been recognized for their efforts during the 2011 football season.

Sophomores McKay Tingle, Deuce Coon and Derrek Upshaw were named to the All-MACJC South Division first team, while Lavoris “Tiger” Powell, Anthony Wilson and Antonio Parker were named to the All-MACJC South Division second team.

The MACJC released the information on Monday morning.

Tingle is a 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive tackle from Greene County, who started all nine games this year and several last year as a true freshman.

Coon is a 5-foot-11, 200-pound wide receiver from Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge, La. He caught 44 passes for 566 yards and three touchdowns this season. He was a second-team, All-MACJC South Division performer in 2010.

Upshaw is a 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive tackle from McIntosh County Academy in Darien, Ga. He finished with seven sacks this season, which tied him for eighth in the state. Upshaw, who transferred to JCJC from Middle Tennessee State University, had 29 solo tackles and 15 assists.

Powell is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound running back from Columbia High School in Lake City, Fla. He led the MACJC in scoring with 15 touchdowns (90 points) and was third in rushing with 182 carries for 897 yards, an average of 99.6 yards per game and 4.9 yards per carry.

Wilson is a 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive end from Midfield High School in Birmingham, Ala. The Southern Miss commitment had six sacks on the year, returned an interception for a touchdown and had 28 solo tackles and eight assists.

Parker is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound cornerback from Destrehan High School in New Orleans, La. He had 44 tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown. He was a second-team, All-MACJC South Division selection last year.

East Mississippi quarterback Bo Wallace was named the Region 23 MVP. Southwest’s Vintavious Cooper, who played quarterback during the season, was named the South’s Most Valuable Back and was a first-team selection at running back. Mississippi Gulf Coast offensive lineman Dylan Holley was named the South’s Most Valuable Offensive Lineman. MGCCC defensive back Alonzo Lawrence was named the South’s Most Valuable Defensive Back and MGCCC tackle Darrington Sentimore was named the South’s Most Valuable Defensive Lineman.

Buddy Stephens of state champion East Mississippi was named Coach of the Year.
