MSVCC Facts For Current Students
I registered for an online class. How do I know I got the class I asked for and who is teaching it.
Go to the Student Profile login page at
http://sbcjcweb.sbcjc.cc.ms.us/msvccvisitor/studentlogin.asp. Following the basic instructions. A profile showing all this information, plus your login ID and textbook information will be displayed. Note that although the form as for your student ID number, use the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you can not access your profile, contact us at online@jcjc.edu.
How long does it last and when does it start?
MSVCC classes last fifteen weeks in the fall and spring and eight weeks in the summer. Normally they begin the week after the traditional classes begin. View the MSVCC Calendar to get the specific dates for each semester.
I see I need a textbook. How do I get it? What does it cost?
For courses provided by Jones, you can contact the JCJC Bookstore or visit the store on campus. If your instructors teaching at another college (see your Student Profile), you will need to contact the bookstore at that college. If you are using financial aid, it is important to contact the JC Financial Aid Office to determine if your purchase from another college will be covered by your aid package.
IMPORTANT: Textbooks for the same course will vary from college to college. Example: An American History I textbook at Hinds may be different than the one used at Gulf Coast. Be very careful when switching classes.
You have the right to purchase your books elsewhere. However, please be aware that you could accidentally get the wrong edition. Also some textbooks for online classes include an access key to the publisher's web site. These keys would not normally come with materials purchased from online vendors.
Is there an attendance policy?
Yes. The specific requirements of your instructor and how they will "count" attendance is noted in their online syllabus. General speaking, if you are considered as missing class twice, you are on probation. If you miss three times, you are withdrawn from class.
What are proctored tests?
To maintain the honesty and integrity of online classes, MSVCC requires at least one, but no more than three, proctored tests. These tests must be taken at an approved proctor site. Find a site that is convenient to you and make an appointment for your test during the time frame set by your instructor following that site's procedures. You will be required to present a photo ID.
What is the withdrawal policy?
The policy for Jones online courses is the same as for traditional courses. If you procrastinate and do not keep up with the assignments, your instructor may suggest that you need to withdraw from the course. Check the Student Handbook for specific withdrawal guidelines.
