WESSON – Jones County Junior College won the Region 23 Division III golf title here Monday at Wolf Hollow Golf Club on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
JCJC posted a team score of 670, while Southwest was next at 723.
Individually, West Jones sophomore Nick Keyes led the Bobcats with an 82-75 – 157, while Sumrall sophomore Ben Whitehead shot a 75-84 – 159. Simpson Academy freshman Mitchell Smith posted an 86-76 – 162 and South Jones sophomore Rocky Purvis had a 104-88 – 92. Mize freshman Chase Powell had a DQ-93 and Clarkdale freshman Clarke Boatner shot an 81-81 – 162.
Host Co-Lin won the overall title and Division II portion of the tournament with a 297-295 – 592. Gulf Coast was second with a 302-297 – 599 and East Mississippi was third with a 297-305 – 602.
Gulf Coast’s Richie Williams was the tournament medalist with a 74-66 – 140. He was joined on the All-Tournament team by Elliott Bingham of Hinds and Donnie McFarland of Co-Lin, who both posted a 72-70 – 142; Alex Rowland of Itawamba, who shot 74-71 – 145; Clay Price of Co-Lin, who shot a 72-74 – 146; and Northwest’s Grant Goforth, who posted a 75-72 – 147.
The next scheduled tournament for the JCJC golf team will be the MACJC State Championship on April 6-7 at Kirkwood National Golf Club in Holly Springs.
