ELLISVILLE – Southwest Mississippi took a doubleheader from Jones County Junior College here Friday afternoon at Lady Bobcat Field.

In the opener, Southwest’s Angelia Polk limited Jones to four hits as the Lady Bears posted a 6-2 decision. In the nightcap, SMCC got a shutout pitching performance from Kara Simmons and pounded out 13 hits in a 12-0, six-inning decision over Jones.

JCJC is now 5-13 overall and 2-6 in the South Division. Southwest is now 11-9 overall and 3-7 in the division.

The Lady Bobcats’ scheduled game for Saturday at Co-Lin will be played at Lady Bobcat Field on Sunday because of wet grounds in Wesson. Sunday’s game times are 2 and 4 p.m. The JCJC vs. Co-Lin twinbill scheduled for here on April 20 will now be played at Co-Lin.

Southwest was scheduled to host Gulf Coast on Saturday.

Lady Bears 6, Lady Bobcats 2

Southwest led 1-0 after two and 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth when Jones got on the board.

After Kristen McDonald walked, Kirsten Perry reached on a fielder’s choice. Pinch-hitter J.J. Taylor singled sharply into left field. Pinch-hitter Brittney Arnold then drilled a two-run double to left-center to make it 3-2. However, a double play ended the opportunity for more runs to be scored.

The Lady Bears then bounced back with three more runs in the sixth.

McDonald and Arnold doubled for JCJC, while Taylor and Shana Ladner had singles.

Katie Holifield went the distance and took the loss.

Maggie Dunaway tripled and doubled for the Lady Bears, while Christina Hollins-Campbell doubled and singled. Polk, Kara Simmons and Nikki Foster each singled twice, while Kaitlyn Johnson doubled. Kaitlyn Perry and Heather Wehrs added singles.

Polk went the distance and posted the victory.

Lady Bears 12, Lady Bobcats 0 (6 innings)

Southwest led 1-0 after one, 3-0 after two and 5-0 after five. They scored seven runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Brittany Yelverton doubled for JCJC, while Ladner singled twice. Falon Nettles, Taylor and Kristen McDonald added singles.

Nettles went the distance and took the loss.

Foster doubled and singled for Southwest, while Hollins-Campbell, Dunaway and Roxanne Lock had two singles each. Polk, Kayla Stockton, Johnson, Perry and Wehrs added singles.

Simmons posted the victory.
