ELLISVILLE – The Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats took a doubleheader from Jones County Junior College here Wednesday evening at Lady Bobcat Field.

Pearl River scored eight runs in the fourth inning and five in the seventh and beat JCJC, 14-4, in the opener. In game two, the Lady Wildcats used a three-run first inning and held on for the win, 4-3.

Jones falls to 10-22 on the season, 5-15 in the South Division. JCJC goes to Southwest at 11 a.m. on Saturday and ends the season at Co-Lin at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Pearl River is now 21-13 overall, 10-8 in the division. The Lady Wildcats host Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

It was “Sophomore Day” at Jones as the Lady Bobcats honored their sophomore players and their families. The seven sophomores on the JCJC team are Kirsten Perry of Sumrall, Monica Shoemake and Kasey McCann of Northeast Jones, Katie Holifield and Rebekah Langley of West Jones, Jamesa “J.J.” Taylor of Greene County and Blaire Sumrall of George County.

Lady Wildcats 14, Lady Bobcats 4

JCJC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Katie Alderman reached on walk and Kirsten Perry got an infield single. Shana Ladner’s single scored Alderman and Perry would come home on an error. J.J. Taylor’s single drove in Ladner.

PRCC got a run in the second and then sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring eight runs on seven hits and three JCJC errors to take a 9-3 lead.

The Lady Bobcats got a run in the fifth on Taylor’s home run to center.

But the Lady Wildcats would score five runs on just two hits and three errors in the seventh.

Taylor homered and singled, while Blaire Sumrall singled twice for Jones. Perry, Ladner and Rebekah Langley added singles.

Katie Holifield started, went five innings and took the loss for Jones. Falon Nettles tossed the final two frames.

Mykael Maes belted two home runs, including a grand slam in the seventh, and drove in six runs for Pearl River. Laurin Locke tripled and singled, while Baleigh Volking and Miranda Blanchet each singled twice. Laken Taormina, Virginia Blanchet, Bethany Russell, Corinne Fraychineaud and Katie Barrett added singles.

Fraychineaud was the starter and winner, going the first five innings. Molly Stell finished up in relief.

Lady Wildcats 4, Lady Bobcats 3

After the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0, first inning lead, they only got two more hits the remainder of the game, but it was enough.

Jones got on the board in the second when Monica Shoemake led off with a single and scored on Kasey McCann’s double.

The Lady Bobcats made it 3-2 in the third when Devin Darr reached on an error, went to second on a passed ball, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Brittany Yelverton’s sacrifice fly to center.

Pearl River scored a run without a hit, taking advantage of two JCJC errors, to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth.

JCJC got a run in the sixth when Dominique Evans and Elisha Ray drew one-out walks. McCann then reached on an error, but Evans was thrown out at home plate on the play. Perry then reached on an infield single, which allowed Ray to score. But a fly ball ended the inning.

The Lady Bobcats were retired in order in the seventh.

McCann had the double, while Shoemake, Darr and Perry singled for Jones.

Holifield went the distance, scattered six hits, struck out seven and was tagged with the loss.

Russell doubled and singled for Pearl River, while Virginia Blanchet and Locke added added doubles. Miranda Blanchet and Volking had singles.

Stell went the first three innings for PRCC. Barrett tossed the final four frames.
