MERIDIAN – Jones County Junior College finished third in the Region 23 Tennis Tournament here Wednesday afternoon.

Meridian Community College won all nine titles and finished with 18 points. Hinds was second with 5 points, followed by Jones with 4 and Itawamba with 0.

The top three teams, including the Lady Bobcats, qualify for the NJCAA Nationals in Tucson, Ariz., May 2-7.

In Wednesday’s finals, JCJC’s Mary Carole Kiewit lost to Meridian’s Katy Shopteaugh in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Tiffany Hudson of Jones fell to Kayla Daughtery of Meridian in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4. JCJC’s Rebecca Rogers lost to Claire Massey of Meridian in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.

In the No. 3 doubles’ finals, Rogers and Jillian McNeese fell to Daughtery and Massey, 6-2, 6-0.

Meridian also won the men’s Region 23 title.
