TUCSON, Ariz. – The season ended for the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats in the NJCAA Division I Tennis Tournament here Tuesday at the Randolph Tennis Center.

The Lady Bobcats had three players reach the consolation quarterfinal round where they were defeated.

In No. 2 singles, JCJC’s Rachel Whaley lost to Jane Bohlman of Snead State Community College (Ala.), 8-3. In No. 4 singles, JCJC’s Mary Carole Kiewit dropped a hard-fought, 9-8 (5) decision to Meghan Skinner of Eastern Arizona College. In No. 5 singles, Tiffany Hudson of Jones dropped an 8-3 decision to Courtney Diebold of Kalamazoo Valley Community College (Mich.).

All of the JCJC doubles’ teams were in action. The No. 3 doubles team of Jillian McNeese and Rebecca Rogers defeated Whitney Dancaster and Yury Pieczynski of Marion Military Institute (Ala.), 8-5, then lost in the consolation quarterfinals to Lori Cinnamond and Jenn Hamel of Pima Community College (Ariz.), 8-6.

In No. 1 doubles, Whaley and Erica Walker fell to Stephanie Fortney and Courtney Diebold of Kalamazoo Valley, 8-1, in round one of the consolation round. In No. 2 doubles, JCJC’s Meredith Johnson and J.J. Benson fell to Frederique Suntrum and Francesca Bassoo of Lee College (Texas), 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinal round of the championship division.

Head coach Mark Easley’s Lady Bobcats are in 25th place with 5.5 points.

Lee College (Texas) is in first place with two days remaining in the tournament with 33 points, followed by Hillsborough Community College (Fla.) with 32 points and Tyler Junior College (Texas) with 31 points.
