ELLISVILLE – Taylorsville High School athletic standout Darion Hamilton was drafted in the 49th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Thursday.

Hamilton signed a football scholarship with Jones County Junior College in February. He was a wide receiver for coach Bud Blackledge’s Tartars.

Hamilton also joins his cousin, Billy Hamilton, as a Reds’ draftee. Billy Hamilton, who signed a baseball and football scholarship with JCJC, was the first player from Mississippi taken in the draft. He was the 57th player selected overall, going in round two to the Reds.

Darion Hamilton was a second-team All-State selection as an outfielder by Jackson’s Clarion-Ledger newspaper.
