ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College climbed two spots in the latest NJCAA/JCfootball.com poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon.
Head coach Eddie Pierce’s Bobcats are rated No. 14 this week. They moved up from No. 16 after whipping Mississippi Delta Community College 25-14 last week. It was the sixth straight victory for JCJC.
The Bobcats will take on the nation’s fifth-ranked team this week. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 after defeating Hinds Community College, 41-6, on Sunday in Perkinston. The Bulldogs have won seven in a row.
Jones, 6-2, will host Gulf Coast, 7-1, at 2 p.m. on Saturday in a game that will decide the MACJC South Division crown. Both teams are 5-0 in league play. The winner will host a playoff game on Oct. 31, while the loser goes on the road that same day.
Blinn College and Navarro College, both from Texas, still are rated No.’s 1 and 2, respectively, with 7-0 marks. Fort Scott Community College (Kan.) is 7-0 and rated No. 3, while Butler Community College (Kan.) is 6-1 and is No. 4.
East Mississippi Community College, 7-1, has moved up from No. 10 to ninth. Northwest and Pearl River, both 5-3, are both listed in the “Other Schools Receiving Votes” category.

The Gulf Coast at JCJC game will be shown live at www.jcjc.edu with Lance Pittman doing play-by-play and Mark Easley handling commentary. The game will also air on WGDQ-FM, 93.1. The pregame show begins at 1:30 p.m.
