ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College is ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA/JCfootball.com poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats, 6-3, were rated No. 14 last week before falling Saturday to fifth-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 20-17 in a game that determined the MACJC South Division crown.
Head coach Eddie Pierce’s Bobcats will face No. 8-rated East Mississippi Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in the opening round of the MACJC state playoffs at Scooba. The Lions are 8-1 and are the North Division champions.
Unranked Coahoma Community College, 6-3, is making its first playoff appearance in school history. The Tigers will go to Gulf Coast, 8-1, for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday. The state championship game is set for Nov. 7.
The top five teams in the rankings – Blinn College (Texas), Navarro College (Texas), Fort Scott Community College (Kan.), Butler Community College (Kan.) and Gulf Coast – remain unchanged from last week. Blinn plays at Navarro and Fort Scott hosts Butler this week.
Pearl River is listed at No. 20 in the NJCAA/JCfootball.com poll, while Northwest is listed as “Receiving votes.”
In the NJCAA/JCGrid-wire.com poll, JCJC is listed in the “Others to Watch” category. Blinn and Navarro are listed No.’s 1 and 2, respectively, in that poll as well.
Gulf Coast is listed at No. 6, while East Mississippi is No. 7. Co-Lin is listed in the “Others to Watch” division, while Coahoma and Pearl River are listed in the “Noteworthy” category.

JCJC officials are hopeful of televising Saturday’s game at Scooba live on www.jcjc.tv. The broadcast team will have to test equipment for a couple of hours prior to the game to see if it will work. Lance Pittman will call the play-by-play and Mark Easley will provide commentary. The game will air on WGDQ-FM, 93.1. The pregame show begins at 1:30 p.m.
