SCOOBA – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats knocked off the 27th-ranked East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions 70-65 here Monday night at Currie Coliseum in the season opener for both schools.

In the men's game, East Mississippi posted a 90-84 victory.

The 1-0 Lady Bobcats, who received votes in the NJCAA preseason poll, received 16 points each from Quitman sophomore Sooby Cooks and Grove Hill, Ala., sophomore Erica Moore. Taylorsville sophomore Ashley Lee had 12 points.

Natalie Tate had 14 and Shanteria Tate added 11 for EMCC, 0-1.

In the men's game, East Mississippi led 54-37 at halftime.

The Bobcats,0-1, received 19 points from Port Gibson freshman Kadeem Fleming, 16 from Heidelberg sophomore Kendrick McDonald, 15 points and eight rebounds from Rayville, La., sophomore Brandon Wilson and 14 points and eight rebounds from Valdosta, Ga., sophomore Tyrone Brinson.

Coco Ware led EMCC, 1-0, with 19 points. Chris Brand added 17 points and nine rebounds, while Donovan Walker had 14 points. Anthony Alexander had 12 points and Terrance Bennett added 11.

The JCJC teams will make their home debut on Thursday vs. Delgado Community College. The women's game tips off at 5:30 p.m. at Bobcat Gym, followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

East Mississippi will host East Central on Thursday.
