ADVANCED PLACEMENT / CHALLENGE OPTION |

| Jones County Junior College Associate Degree Nursing
Program offers an advanced placement process for Licensed Practical Nurses.
At the time of challenging Nursing 1119 the student must have completed or be currently enrolled in BIO 2514 & FCS 1253. It is recommended that the challenge student also be enrolled in PSY 1513 and ENG 1113. The student should prepare for the challenge exam by obtaining the course syllabus and all handouts for the course at the beginning of the semester. These materials will be given to the student at the orientation session. The challenge exam will consist of a comprehensive mid-term and final exam based on the daily objectives for Nursing 1119 as identified in course syllabus. Test items are developed from the textbooks which are listed on the course syllabus. The challenge exam will be given during mid-term and final exam week of the semester. A score of seventy five percent or above must be achieved. Each student may write the challenge exam one time only. The clinical skills return demonstration will consist of satisfactory performance of specific skills according to the criteria as given in the Associate Degree Nursing Handbook. Scheduling of the return demonstration will be announced each semester. These skills include:
The Math Proficiency Test includes problems of calculating drug dosages and I.V. drop rates. Practice problems are available to the student and may be used with math textbook to prepare for the test. The Math Proficiency test may be taken one time and a score of eighty percent or above must be achieved. The date for the Math Proficiency Test will be announced each semester. Upon successfully completing the challenge exam, the math proficiency test, a saftey test and the clinical skills demonstration the student may choose to enroll in Nursing 1129 as space is available or challenge Nursing 1129. Fees for the Advanced Placement include a $40.00
exam fee and upon successful completion of the challenge process, the college
fee per credit hour for NUR 1119 is to be paid for the work to
be transcribed. |
