ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM
APPLICATION INFORMATION

Applications are accepted in the Spring semester  for the fall class selection and in the Fall semester for the Spring class selection. Beginning the first day of class in August through October 1, applications are available for the Spring admission. Applications are accepted in the Spring semester beginning the first day of class in January through March 1 for the Fall class admission.  Each semester a new application must be submitted. Applications will not be accepted outside of that time frame. Classes are chosen from this pool of applicants based on the number of applications received. LPNs have an opportunity to apply for the challenge option or the Fast-track option. There is a separate application for these options. 

In order for your application to be considered, you must follow these instructions.

1. The applicant must first be admitted to Jones County Junior College.  Your general admission form must be on file in the JCJC Admissions Office. (477-4025)  If you are not a current student, a new application is needed in the JCJC Admissions Office.

2. The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a satisfactory score on the G.E.D. exam.  A high school transcript must be on file in the JCJC Admissions Office.

3. The applicant must submit a completed application for admission to the AD Nursing program.  Applications will not be accepted after Oct 1st for the Spring class and March 1st for the Fall class. 

4. An ACT composite score of 18, or equivalent, is required for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.  Attach a copy of your ACT score to your nursing program application.  You must notify the ADN office of any updated scores.

5. An applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on all previous college academic work.  Official college transcripts from all schools attended are required and must be on file in the College Admissions Office.  Copies of transcripts from each college must be attached to the nursing program application at the time of submission.

6. In order for health care experience to be considered please provide documentation such as a letter from the supervisor, transcripts, etc. stating the type and length of health care experiences.

7. Since the ADN class is limited, applicants are evaluated on a competitive basis (See the JCJC catalogue).  Applicants not selected will be placed on an alternate list for that semester to be considered in the event of vacancies for that semester class.

8. Applicants need to consider their ability to meet the financial obligation and the commitment to an accelerated program of study.

 Additional expenses after acceptance into the ADN program include:
a. Two uniforms (approximately $90.00)
b. Lab coat (approximately $30.00)
c. Watch with second hand
d. Name pin ($10.00)
e. Nursing books (approximately $470.00 for the freshman year)
f. Nursing Kit includes stethoscope, bandage scissors, etc.)  Approximately $50.00)
g. Professional white nursing shoes
h. Individual Transportation
i. Nursing lab fees
 

9. After acceptance into the AD Nursing program, the following are required: (These are expenses that you need to prepare for)
a. Physical Examination 
b. Two step Tuberculosis skin test or follow-up by the State Board of Health
c. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) current certification for the healthcare provider
d. Certificate of compliance from the local Health Department for measles immunization
e. Verification of Hepatitis Vaccine or a signed Statement of Declination
f. Completion of an orientation session

10. Pursuant to Mississippi statue 43-11-13 health care workers must have a criminal background check.  If you have any felonies, your participation in clinical will be prohibited.
 

NOTE:  Dates, forms, and instructions for items 8, 9, and 10 will be given to students selected for admission.
