NURSING EDUCATION AT JCJC
The Jones County Junior College Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), 61 Broadway, New York, N.Y., 10006, (1-800-669-1656 ext.153) and the Mississippi State Institutions of Higher Learning, Board of Trustees (IHL). The program consists of nursing and non-nursing courses granting college credit. The program of study qualifies the graduate to be eligible for the National Council Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RNŽ). Graduates are prepared to render competent patient-centered nursing care in a variety of health care settings. The Associate in Arts Degree with a major in Nursing requires courses in biological and social sciences, psychology, the humanities, as well as in nursing. Nursing courses are limited to nursing majors. Teaching methods include lecture, demonstration, discussion, projects, and multi-media materials. Off-campus labs are held in a variety of health care agencies to provide selected experiences that develop the knowledge and skills taught in the formal classes. LPNs with a current license have two options in the Associate Degree Nursing Program here at JCJC: the Advanced Placement Option and the Fast-Track Option.

The LPN-to-RN Fast-Track Option is the first of two options available for the LPN who has a goal to pursue the RN role.  This options provides students with the greatest flexibility regarding classroom and clinical requirements and the students must be able to learn at an accelerated pace.  Students enrolled in this track are not integrated with the traditional students and remain in the Fast-Track until graduation.

The Advanced Placement (A-P) Option is the second of two options available for the LPN who has a goal to pursue the RN role.  This option allows the LPN-to-RN student to determine their individual needs regarding the amount of time needed in the classroom setting.  The student is eventually integrated into the regular program with the traditional students.
