The JCJC Automotive Machinist Program is a one-year program designed to equip the student with the basic skills essential for entry level employment as an Automotive Machinist. Emphasis is also placed on preparing the student for ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.
Every area of engine repair and machine operation is covered, such as disassembly and inspection of automotive engines, resurfacing brake drums and rotors, basic engine balancing, and cylinder head rebuilding. Students also receive instruction and practice in cylinder boring, submerged arc welding of crankshafts, operation of the drill press and crankshaft grinder, a general knowledge of the milling machine, connecting rod rebuilding, and engine assembly. Domestic, as well as foreign, engines are rebuilt by the student in this curriculum, including both gasoline and diesel engines.
