DRAFTING & DESIGN COURSES

DDT 1114 - Fundamentals of Drafting - A course designed to give the drafting major the background needed for all other drafting courses. Emphasis is placed upon maintaining correct techniques while developing speed. Two hours lecture and five hours lab. Four semester hours credit.

DDT 1123 - Computational Methods for Drafting - Prerequisite: Consent from instructor. Study of computational skills required for the development of accurate design and drafting methods. This course is not one of the required 67 semester credit hours to complete the drafting and design program. Students with weak math skills (C or lower in Intermediate Algebra) will need to take this course during the summer between the freshman and sophomore years. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1133 - Machine Drafting - Prerequisite: DDT 1114 - Emphasis on methods, techniques, and procedures in presenting screws, bolts, rivets, springs, thread types, welding symbols, materials, finishes, work order preparation, and other drafting room procedures. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1153 - Descriptive Geometry - Prerequisite: DDT 1114 - Theory and problems designed to develop the ability to visualize points, lines, and surfaces in space. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1213 - Construction Materials - A course designed to familiarize the student with the physical properties of the materials generally used in the erection of a structure, with a brief description of their manufacture. Two hours lecture and two hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1313 - Principles of CAD - Pre/Corequisite: DDT 1114 - This course will introduce the student to the operating system and how to perform basic drafting skills on the CAD system. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1323 - Intermediate CAD - Prerequisite: DDT 1313 - A continuation of Principles of CAD. Topics include section views, symbols, pictorials, dimensioning, and plotting. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1413 - Elementary Surveying - A basic course dealing with principles of geometry, theory, and use of instruments, mathematical calculations, and the control and reduction of errors. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 1613 - Architectural Design I - Prerequisite: DDT 1114 - Presentation and application of architectural drafting room standards for residential working drawings. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2233 - Structural Drafting - Prerequisite: DDT 1114 - Structural shapes, terms, and conventional abbreviations and symbols used by structural fabricators and erectors are studied. Knowledge is gained in the use of the A.I.S.C. Handbook. Problems are studied that involve structural designing and drawing of beams, columns, connections, trusses, and bracing. Two hours lecture and three hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2243 - Cost Estimating - Prerequisite: MAT 1233 or DDT 1123 or consent of instructor. Preparation of material and labor quantity surveys from working drawings and specifications, including related mathematics. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2253 - Statics and Strengths of Materials - Prerequisite: MAT 1313 or a combination of MAT 1233 and PHY 2244. Study of forces acting on bodies, moment of forces, stress of materials and physical properties, beam and column design. Two hours lecture and two hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2343 - Advanced CAD - Prerequisite: DDT 1323 - A continuation of Intermediate CAD. Emphasis is placed on User Coordinate Systems, 3-D surfaces and solids, and third-party application software. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2363 - Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Drafting - Prerequisite: DDT 1313. A course designed to give the drafting major basic knowledge of numerical control machines. Two hours lecture and two hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2423 - Mapping and Topography - Prerequisite: DDT 1413 - Drafting techniques for making maps, traverses, plot plans, and profiles using maps, field data, aerial photos and related references and materials. Two hours lecture and two hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

DDT 2623 - Architectural Design II - Prerequisite: DDT 1613; Co/Prerequisite: DDT 1323 - This course emphasizes standard procedures and working drawings, along with presentation drawings and CAD assignments. One hour lecture and four hours lab. Three semester hours credit.

ELT 1192 - Fundamentals of Electricity - A basic course designed to provide fundamental skills associated with electrical courses. It includes safety, basic tools, special tools, equipment, and an introduction to simple AC and DC circuits. Two hours lecture and two hours lab. Three semester hours credit.
