ELECTRONICS CAREER INFORMATION
Electronics - An Excellent Career Choice
Electronic devices are changing the way our society functions. Modern computing devices are responsible for increasing worker productivity. Communication is achieved through wired and wireless electronic devices. Electronic devices such as televisions, camcorders, video recorders, personal digital assistants and the personal computer have also become an important part of our leisure time.
Analyzing, troubleshooting, installing and maintaining the electronic systems and equipment that power our personal and professional lives requires the expertise of electronics professionals with a wide range of skills and capabilities. Clearly, these experts play a critical role in keeping our fast-paced world in motion.
As these technical systems become more pervasive and integral to our lives, the expertise of the electronics technician is increasingly vital. To this end, Jones County Junior College based its Electronics Technology program on fundamentals of the technology driving today’s systems, including telecommunications, wireless, computers, controls and instrumentation. Graduates have a broad knowledge base that qualifies them for challenging career-entry positions in the dynamic electronics and computer fields.
Trends
The electronics industry has spawned most of today's cutting-edge technologies including multimedia systems, personal digital assistants, optical and speech recognition and optoelectronics - the marriage of light and electricity - is becoming the backbone of the Information Age.
Supporting the industry are electronics technicians who build, install, test, evaluate and maintain technical equipment. They are proficient in using specialized test equipment and computers. They work in areas such as field service, sales and manufacturing for industries including communications, computer systems and networks, avionics, biomedical, instrumentation and consumer electronics.
