Junior and Community College
Band Directors Association
Fall Meeting - September 16, 1994

Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Steve Barnett. Each director present introduced themselves giving the name of the institution represented.

President Barnett recognized Mr. R.L. McClellon, Commissioner of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.

Mr. Barnett reviewed the minutes from the February 1994 meeting, which included a reminder of half time limitation of 12 minutes each for the visiting and home band and a clarification for the selection of students for the All-State MJCCB.

OLD BUSINESS

President Barnett presented plans for the All-State Band. It will be held at Delta State University on January 25-28 [1995]. Clinician will be Dr. David Waybright from the University of Floriday. The fee will be $700 plus expenses. Suggestion was made to consider raising the fee to $1000 plus expenses. Information on housing was discussed and the group was informed of two new motels in Cleveland.

D.S.U. is building a new Performing Arts Center. The All-State Band will probably be the first performing group to use this facility.

Jeff Brown suggested the clinic list be in by noon Friday January 13, 1995

Jones Community college agreed to furnish tryout music. Naz Rhodes requested all tryout music be printed rather than some in manuscript. Northwest will help in providing percussion equipment needed.

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. McClellon addressed the association and complimented directors for their halftime performances. In offering the State Board's assistance he requested all budget items be in the the State Department before May/June and that the State Department will cooperate and try to fund the request. He did emphasize that the purpose for all funds/fund increases be documented.

Mr. McClellon reviewed in/out of district recruiting, urging directors not to make contacts outside their district.

In closing Mr. McClellon expressed his appreciation to the organization for keeping the State Department informed about meetings, the continued updating of membership, and the overall good relationship between the State Department and the MJCCBD Association.

Mr. McClellon picked up the bill for the luncheon and the directors expressed their appreciation.

Motion was made to adjourn; duly seconded; and the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting of the MJCCBD Association will be at State Band Clinic in December.
