(ex. cymbals, triangle, tambourine, etc.) be included at part of percussion
sight reading tryouts. Second by Kyle Hill, motion carried unanimously. |

points awarded fpr prepared percussion literature. After brief discussion
the President suggested this item be tabled and brought forth in the 1995
Fall meeting |
| |
| Mr. Barnett expressed his appreciation to the tryout judges
for their careful selection of student chair positions and to the directors
and students for being prompt in staying on the time schedule. He complimented
the directors for getting their student list for the All-State Band in on
time. he applauded the expediency and promptness in utlizing the FAX and
CCN with the selection of the All-State Band. |
| |
| The President suggested items the association could address
for a more successful clinic. he felt an improvement in student cancellation
percentage and selecting student more capable of performing the level of
music required would lend itself to that means. After discussion the association
felt the directors should get more of a commitment from the student to attend
the clinicc and make a more determined effort to select students that are
responsible as well as excellent musicians. |
| |
| Tracy Irby suggested that there should be more consistency
in the tryout music. Discussion followed and the following ideas were set
forth by the association: |
| |
| 1. Prepared music for winds should include both melodic and
technical excerpts. |
| 2. Each excerpt no more than 30 seconds in length. |
| 3. Responsibility of instrumental group (ex. clarinet, sax.,
trumpet, trombone, etc) to develop printed prepared piece idiomatic of that
instrument. |
| 4. Selected tryout music repertoire be compiled (seven '7'
prepared selection for each instrument) and at each Fall meeting select
the tryout music for that year from the repertoire. |
| |
| Motion by Ferrell Lunceford, second by Sammy Barr to accept
the above recommendation. Motion passed. |
| |
| Examples of the first set of prepared pieces for tryouts to
be ready for the 1995 fall meeting. A list of directors and the instrument/instruments
