Minutes December 7, 2001

| The meeting was called to order by Tom Carson. A motion was made to dispense with the reading of the minutes was made by Maurice Kelly and seconded by Shaw Furlow. President Carson and the association thanked Jeff Brown for his work on posting music on the Jones website. President Carson also welcomed Ricky Brown from Coahoma and David East from Itawamba to the meeting. Kyle Hill gave a preliminary report on amendments to the bylaws regarding all-state band. More information will be given and discussion will take place in the January meeting. | ||||||
| Rod Chestnut from Mississippi State spoke to the members and expressed how excited the Faculty at State was to have us there for the clinic. He also informed us of performances by several of the fine ensemble[s] on campus and volunteered his faculty for master classes. | ||||||
|
We received lots of paper. In fact many trees died to
make this meeting possible. Reservations for the Ramada Inn must be
made by January 21. Our contact person is Carolyn Wilcox at (662) 3223-6161[sic].
Group rate with school tax ID is $57.00 per night. We were also given
a tentative schedule with set up to begin in McComas Hall as 12:30 on
Thursday, January 24. Dress for the concert remains tuxes and black
dresses.

| Suggestions for altering the trombone and bass clarinet parts were made and seconded and approved. The alterations were made on the website. | ||||||
| As usual, a motion was made to adjust the percussion tryouts. The motion was made by Shaw Furlow and seconded by Meri Maloy. The motion was as follows: Percussionist will be allowed to tryout on a single instrument or any combination of instruments. If a student makes the band on more than one instrument the student will have the option to choose. They will commit to a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice at the audition site when they sign in at registration. The measure was passed and no animals were used in testing. | ||||||
| A motion was made to adjourn by Shaw Furlow and seconded by Jared Brownlee and we did. | ||||||
