ENG 2153 Traditional Grammar
DESCRIPTION: Primarily for elementary education majors, this course focuses on English fundamentals: parts of speech, sentence structure and patterns, sentence correctness, punctuation, and mechanics--all the aspects of traditional grammar that elementary teachers may encounter in teaching language arts.

DESCRIPTION: This course is a representative survey of English literature from Beowulf
through The Neo-Classical period.

DESCRIPTION: This course is a representative survey of English literature from 1798
through the Modern period.
ENG 2413 World Literature
DESCRIPTION: This course includes the study of four genres, using literary selections
from around the world.
ENG 1103 Basic English Skills I
DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to meet the needs of students whose skills in
written communication require some standardization prior to taking ENG 1113. It emphasizes individual conference and practical work in written composition and basic grammar.
ENG 1113 English Composition I
DESCRIPTION: English 1113 is a course which includes the following components:
fundamentals of grammar and mechanics, sentence and paragraph structure, development of the whole composition, and an introduction to word processing.
ENG 1113 Honors English Composition I
DESCRIPTION: Honors English 1113 is designed for students having an ACT score of 24
or above in language. The course consists of sequential composition experiences with emphasis on the whole composition, directed readings, and publication. It includes the following additional components: Review of the fundamentals of grammar, mechanics, and essay development.
ENG 1123 Honors English Composition II
DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: Honors English 1113. This course is a continuation of
Honors ENG 1113 with emphasis on individualized instruction in composition, self-directed studies, creative writing, and research.
ENG 1123 English Composition II
DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: Successful Completion of ENG 1113. A continuation of
ENG 1113 with emphasis on the whole composition. Readings, essays, business/technical writing, and research papers required. Three semester hours credit.
ENG 1203 Basic English Skills II
DESCRIPTION: This course offers instruction in writing improvement. It aims at standardizing writing practices so that a student may pursue successfully his goals in College English and in other discipline throughout the college. It embraces sentence structure, composition, troublesome vocabulary, mechanics, and diction. Each student is expected to do the required work as outlined below so that practical and reliable results may be attained.
REA 1103 Basic Reading I
DESCRIPTION: A laboratory course designed to offer specific reading instruction for a
variety of reading skills.
REA 1203 Basic Reading II
DESCRIPTION: A continuation of REA 1103.
REA 1213 Reading Improvement I
DESCRIPTION: A course provided to help students develop reading skills necessary for
success in college. Diagnostic testing followed by practice in skills according to the needs of the student. Emphasis on spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary, study skills, and critical thinking. Guidance in developing wide reading interests.
REA 1223 Reading Improvement II
DESCRIPTION: A course designed to improve comprehension and rate in reading, to use
critical thinking skills in solving problems, and to read various types of literature.
SPT 1113 Oral Communications (Principles of Speech)
DESCRIPTION: Correct and effective English; correct pronunciation and enunciation;
breath control; study and practice in making speeches for all occasions; major emphasis on organization of material and practice in speaking before the group. It is recommended that this class not be taken until the sophomore year.
ENG 2133 Creative Writing I
DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Writing the poem, the short story, the essay, and the play.

DESCRIPTION: A continuation of ENG 2133.
JOU 1111 College Publications
DESCRIPTION: This class is for students who are on the staff of the Radionian, the school
newspaper, and the Lair, the school yearbook. Practical training in writing and gathering news, editorial and feature writing, make-up for newspapers and magazines, and publication management are stressed.
JOU 1121 College Publications
DESCRIPTION: A continuation of JOU 1111.
MFL 1113 French I
DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for students who have no previous knowledge of
the French language. Emphasis is placed on conversational skills and on the development of reading and writing skills. Three semester hours credit.
MFL 1123 French II
DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite; MFL 1113. A continuation of MFL 1113. Three semester
hours credit.
MFL 1213 Elementary Spanish I
DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for students who have no previous knowledge of Spanish language. Emphasis is placed on conversational skills and on the development of reading writing skills. Three semester hours credit.

DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: MFL 1213. A continuation of MFL 1213. Three semester

DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: either MFL 1113 and 1123, or two years of high
school French. This course is designed for those who have mastered the basic concepts of the French language. Emphasis is placed on composition, advanced conversation and reading. Three semester hours credit.

DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: MFL 2113. A continuation of MFL 2113. Three semester hours credit.
MFL 2213 Intermediate Spanish I
DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: MFL 1213 and 1223, or two years of high school Spanish.
