Enhancing Fine Arts

New Fine Arts Brochure

Many people have attended one of the Fine Arts recitals or at least have heard of their many accomplishments in the news. Now, everyone will know about one of the best kept secrets at Jones - its exemplary fine arts department. To share the unique opportunities Jones offers its students, a full color brochure was created by the marketing department.

Musical arts, performing arts and visual arts are all showcased in the publication.

  • Students enjoy a mix of classroom instruction and performance participation in the Fine Arts program through performing groups such as concert band, concert choir, marching band, show choir, small ensembles, symphonic band, and theater.
  • Jones Fine Arts instructors are well known for their musical talents and teaching abilities. In fact, the college is the only two-year college in the state that offers a wide variety of small ensemble groups featuring each instrument, including flute choir, brass ensemble, jazz and percussion ensemble, pep band, and guitar ensemble. Jones is also home to the only Horn Choir in any two-year college in the state.
The Fine Arts department has 18 full-time, talented and experienced instructors, many of whom have received recognition in their fields. Band director Sammy Barr was recently inducted into the National Band Directors Hall of Fame, piano instructor Theresa Sanchez was chosen as the Humanities Teacher of the Year, and guitar instructor Michael Boyd recently released a new CD of classical guitar pieces as well as performed at Carnegie Hall.
  • Another feature in the brochure is the visual arts and theater departments, and Jones OnStage. Visual art students have the opportunity to learn and practice pottery, painting, drawing and graphic design. Their work is debuted in the Eula Bass Lewis art gallery on campus. The Jones theatre department performs blockbuster musicals, and Jones OnStage entertains at both campus and community events.
The Fine Arts brochure showcases all the department has to offer.
