Inspiration from Gardening
The Gardening Symposium offers fresh ideas in helping the community create great gardens.
Encouraging the community with fellowship and a fun day of learning, the JCJC Foundation, Inc. hosted its second annual Gardening Symposium March 6.
“We wanted to offer gardeners an opportunity to get a head start on their spring projects, as well as provide them with tips to help them year round,” explained Caroline Kelly, JCJC Foundation Director, of the reasons behind starting the event. “Last year’s symposium was so well received that we knew we had found something special that appealed to many people in our area.”
Six simultaneous workshops were offered and participants could choose to attend four of the six.
Workshop topics included “New Annuals and How to Use Them,” “Cutting of Perennials and Other Popular Summer Annuals,” “Pruning Small Trees and Shrubs,” “Simple Irrigation for the Homeowner,” and “Floral Design.”
“The speakers are all experts in their field,” said Kelly. “I believe participants will find that we are offering a little something for everyone.”
Hundreds of attendees enjoyed the guest speakers, workshops, and refreshments at the second annual Gardening Symposium. Top left is keynote speaker Fred Spicer, Director of the Birmingham Botannical Gardens. The “Garden Mama” also spoke.
