2008 President's Report
SACS Update
To ensure faculty, staff and students understood the Quality Enhancement Plan, which was part of the SACS evaluation, a cookout with fun and games was held.JCJC spent the last three years preparing for a Southern Association of Colleges and School’s (SACS) review. This reaccreditation process included a thorough self-evaluation and development of a plan to enhance student learning.
Following intense off-site and on-site reviews this year, the commission gave JCJC the equivalent of an “A” on its reaffirmation report card, which is rare among colleges. The college received this reaffirmation with no follow-up reports necessary.
SACS accredits institutions throughout the 11 southern states and Latin America. When an institution earns accreditation or is reaffirmed every 10 years, it signifies that the institution has the resources, programs, and services to accomplish its stated mission.
As a result of JCJC’s reaffirmation, credits will continue to transfer to other colleges and universities. Students will continue to have access to financial aid and receive instruction from highly-qualified faculty.
As part of its evaluation, the college was required to develop a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) for improving student learning. The focus for Jones’ QEP is to enhance student learning by improving reading comprehension abilities across disciplines.
The plan will be implemented over the next five years to provide faculty with professional development in Reading Apprenticeship (RA), to foster positive attitudes toward reading, and to establish ongoing support for students and instructors.
