Inspiring New Students

Jones is committed to providing the best education for its students. This means meeting their ever-changing needs with online courses and local classes in their home counties. We’re also dedicated to ensuring their success in the workforce by providing new career-technical programs that produce graduates with experience and knowledge.

Helping students prosper in college life is an ongoing goal at Jones. From new programs for student retention and non-traditional students to our student hosts, the Jones Ambassadors, we are dedicated to student success.

This past year, eLearning classes grew by leaps and bounds, with 2104 students enrolled in Jones courses in Spring 2008. That represents a 92% increase from Spring 2007 enrollment.

LifeLong Learning classes made their debut in 2008 reaching out to an entirely new set of students, the adult learner. Pottery, photography, painting, and foreign language are a few community offerings.

The Adult Education program also experienced tremendous growth in several counties with record numbers of GED graduates.

ABE Experiences Increase
Despite Statewide declines, Jones finds Growth in students

Although statewide Adult Basic Education enrollment has been on the decline, Jones has experienced a significant increase, and ABE Director Jennifer Griffith credits that to the college’s instructors.

Mississippi State and Jones Ink Online Partnership
Jones students now have the option to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University by taking only online courses.

Counselors Implement Retention Program
To help students succeed academically, Jones has implemented a new program designed to assist students who may be experiencing difficulties in and out of the classroom.

Herrington Receives Top Faculty Honors
PE instructor and Athletic Director Katie Herrington received top honors in the sixth annual Faculty Recognition Program luncheon, held April 18.

Community classes get real world application.
This past year, Jones began offering non-credit classes for members of the community. Offered over a span of approximately eight weeks, the classes, which range from floral design to photography to conversational French, offer a fun learning environment for adults.
