Improved cafeteria opens
As students entered the C.L. Neill Cafeteria and Student Center on August 14, they did not only smell the aroma of their lunch, but they also noticed the new renovations being done to the cafeteria. The new and improved cafeteria opened to faculty and staff on September 26 and to students on September 29.

College implements emergency text system
With many of the different occurrences at universities nationwide such as hurricanes, shootings and emergencies, JCJC has started a new way of not only warning students of such emergencies but also giving updates as to when classes will restart and what is going to differ on campus because of the emergency.

Heartwalk comes to JCJC campus
For the first time JCJC will be hosting the Jones County Heartwalk. The event will be on campus Saturday morning, October 25.

Drama department to hold auditions for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ musical
Two years ago, Greg Smith decided to step down as drama director for Jones Junior College, leaving it in the hands of Nikki Johnson. Johnson was very excited about taking over where Smith left off.

Thornton named Homecoming Queen
One of the highlights of every fall semester is Homecoming week. This year that will be the week of October 6-11. Activities will culminate on Saturday with the football game between the Bobcats and the Southwest Community College Bears at 2 p.m. Homecoming Queen Samantha Thornton and her Court will be presented at halftime.

Statistics show underage drinking poses many risks
Prior to 1984, 18 year olds had the legal right to drink if they wished. However, the law was changed because some people believe that at 18 a person cannot handle the responsibility of drinking.

NTSA pays tribute to former members
Just prior to the end of the 2008 spring semester, the JCJC Non-Traditional Student Association paid tribute to two of their members who died during the 2007-08 school year.

Technical Phi Beta Lambda goes national
The National Phi Beta Lambda Conference was held earlier this summer at the Marriott Marquis in the heart of downtown Atlanta, GA.

Phi Theta Kappa hits floor running
The JCJC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is off to a busy start. The new officers are:
Sarah Wheeler, president; Jim Burris, vice president; Heather Elmore, secretary; Emily Odom, treasurer; Leah Burch, reporter; and Meagan Arender, historian. Leigh Ann Andries is the regional southern district representative.

Gridiron Bobcats undefeated
The No. 5 ranked Bobcats are off to a 3-0 start on the gridiron in the 2008 season. Jones posted a big victory in Week One, fought for the victory in Week Two, and defeated their first South Division opponent by a considerable margin in Week Three.

Borne drives Jones past ICC
The No. 7 ranked Bobcats (1-0) got down to business in front of large home crowd on opening night as sophomores Daniel Borne of Avondale, LA, ran for three touchdowns and Demorio Leverett of Bartow, FL, returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown—all in the second quarter—to down the No. 20 ranked Itawamba Indians (0-1) 38-7.

Down early, Bobcats come back to win
Despite a shaky start here in week two, the No. 7 ranked Bobcats (2-0) rebounded with two touchdowns—both runs by Daniel Borne—in the third quarter to defeat a surprisingly good East Mississippi Lions team (1-1) 23-19.
