Each year Mississippians throw away enough garbage to cover 600 football fields to a depth of six feet in compacted garbage.

Blood Drive success
JCJC students, faculty and staff were successful in saving lives once again! Jones hosted a very successful blood drive in early March.

School offers new program
Through a competitive application process, Jones County Junior College has been selected as one of the three Community Colleges in Mississippi to serve as the first Beta Testing Sites for the launching of CollegeFish.org in the United States. Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Holmes Community College were also chosen.

Academic PBL earns awards
Jones County Junior College Academic Phi Beta Lambda students brought back 16 awards and their advisor was honored in the state competition held in February.

Tech PBL students place at state
Jones County Junior College’s Technical Phi Beta Lambda students recently attended the annual state competition where they earned seven awards.

Three colleges to compete in guitar festival
Jones County Junior College, Meridian Community College and William Carey Community College will be competing in the annual Guitar Festival, being held at the Foote Chapel at JCJC, on Tuesday, April 14.

Stimulus package helps Pell Grants
A college education from Jones will be more affordable this fall thanks to a recent boost in Pell Grant funding made possible by the economic stimulus plan. Eligible students can receive up to $5,350 for the 2009-10 school year versus the maximum award of $4,731 now in effect.

Adam Burnett went three for three with a double and four RBIs as the Bobcats (8-3) routed Rend Lake College (0-5) 11-1 in five innings.

Editorial: Make funding education to priority
Almost everyone agrees that education is a must in society. Many years ago, people could get decent paying jobs with less than a high school education.

In Tyler Perry’s most recent film, “Madea Goes to Jail,” there is a scene that takes place in a prison support group in which the minister admonishes those in the group to forgive those against whom they are holding grudges, in order to release themselves from the bondage of unforgiveness.

Boys of summer roll into division play
The Jones County Junior College baseball team is off to a hot start on the season with an overall record of 22-6 and a South Division record of 3-3.

Netters show consistency on court
The JCJC tennis teams are right in the midst of 2009 action. The women are riding a 7-1 record while the men are staying ahead of the break-even mark with a 5-3 record to date.

Bobcats claim Region 23 Division III
The Jones County Junior College golf team started the season on a high note by winning its first Division III match up. The Bobcats have also won the Region 23 Division III title.

Bobcats conclude 2009 season
The No. 19 ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats’ season ended in the Region 23 Tournament when the regular season North Division winner Itawamba Community College upset the 2009 MACJC State Champions.

Lady Cats fall at regionals
Every good thing must come to end. The past season for the JCJC Lady Bobcats was incredible. The season began with a winning streak and the women later claimed the MACJC State Championship.
