Black History Month program features Dr. Samuel Jones
“This year’s annual Black History Month Program has three goals: to make our student body aware of contributions African Americans have made, to encourage all students to get involved, and to promote education,” said Dr. Samuel Jones, dean of student affairs and this year’s speaker.

Prepare now to transfer in fall
The end of the semester is coming nearer and nearer, which means some students will be transferring to a senior college after graduation.

Cochran, Burch receive prestigious award
Since 1987, academically talented students and faculty members of higher education institutions have been honored by the Mississippi Legislative Resolution #88 in what is known as the Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence award.

Guitar students place in contest
At the 2008 Mississippi Guitar Festival, held recently in Meridian, JCJC sophomore guitar students Eric Johnson from Laurel earned second place and Jay Gandy of Soso earned an honorable mention in their competition categories.

College names Who’s Who, Hall of Fame
Every year, several students from JCJC are chosen for Who’s Who among American
College Students. The students, who must be sophomores, achieve this award through scholastic achievement as well as campus involvement.

Christmas with the Arts a hit
It was looking a lot like Christmas at Jones Junior College as the Fine Arts Department put on its annual Christmas with the Arts Program. The program was held two nights in early December.

JCJC-Franklin University partnership offers options
“Options.” That is what the partnership between Franklin University and Jones County Junior College provides in benefits for students. Administrators from both colleges agree it has been a very successful partnership.

Bobcats undefeated in division play
The Bobcats are off to a fantastic start on the hardwood with a 12-2 overall record as they head deeper into division play. Jones is currently undefeated in the South Division.

Bobcats move on to university gridirons
Many have witnessed or heard about how well the JCJC football team performs on the field. In the fall of 2007, the Bobcats posted a remarkable record of 9-2, being runner-up in the playoffs.

Many athletes in professional sports and on the collegiate level have their roots deeply grounded in the campus at Jones County Junior College.

The Bobcats will be under new leadership on the baseball diamond for the 2009 season. JCJC head baseball coach Christian Ostrander, a native of Arlington, TX, came to Jones from Gulfport High School where he coached from 2006-2008.
