Academic Scholarships

Jones offers a variety of academic scholarships to incoming freshmen and existing students. Students may be awarded only one type of Academic scholarship.

Full tuition scholarships are awarded to those students who make a composite score of 26 or above.  Students making a composite score of 29 or above also receive an additional $200 credit for the purchase of books and one-half of the room and board fees for the fall and spring semesters of both their freshman and sophomore years.  Half-tuition scholarships are awarded to students who make a composite score of 23, 24, or 25.  Students scoring 21 and 22 will receive a $200 per semester.  ACT Scholarships awards are not to exceed enrollment in more than 4 semesters (Fall and Spring only).  ACT Scholarships DO NOT apply to out-of-state fees

Presidential
Awarded to Valedictorians and Salutatorians of Mississippi schools.  The Presidential scholarship assures coverage of full tuition, fees, $800 bookstore credit, and full Room and Board charges for students choosing to live in Campus Housing after all other scholarships and financial aid have been applied.  Presidential scholarships are valid for four semesters.  Scholarship may not be redeemed for cash value.  Presidential recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA on 12 semester hours to remain eligible.  Scholarship must be accepted for fall semester immediately following high school graduation. Failure to do so will cause the student to forfeit the scholarship.

Academic Excellence
Full-tuition scholarships are awarded to those Mississippi students who are among the top achievers in their high school graduating classes.  Students who qualify for this scholarship must accept it during the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.  Failure to do so will cause the student to forfeit the scholarship.  The number of scholarships available per high school is based on the school’s Mississippi High School Activities Association classification as follows:

  • Class AAAAAA (6-A) – 6 scholarships down through the top 12 students.
  • Class AAAAA (5-A) – 5 scholarships down through the top 10 students.
  • Class AAAA (4-A) – 4 scholarships down through the top 8 students.
  • Class AAA (3-A) – 3 scholarships down through the top 6 students.
  • Class AA (2-A) and A (1-A) – 2 scholarships down through the top 4 students.

Academic Excellence scholarships awarded to students who attend private schools will be based on the classification the school would be in if it were a member of the MHSAA.  Academies must be accredited by the Mississippi Private School Association in order to be eligible to present this scholarship.

Career and Technical
One full tuition scholarship is awarded to one Mississippi student at each of the nine Jones County Junior College district vocational–technical centers, based on the high school vocational-technical counselor’s recommendation.  Students who qualify for this scholarship must accept it during the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. Failure to do so will cause the student to forfeit the scholarship.
