Bobby Glaze came to Jones in 1991 as the head coach of the Bobcat Baseball team. Previously Glaze had coached for 5 years at Newton High School and for 10 years at R. H. Watkins in Laurel. His 1988 team won the South State 4A Championship and the 1989 team won the Overall State Championship ranked No. 25 in the country with a 28-3 record. In 1989 Glaze was selected as the Mississippi 4A Baseball Coach of the Year and was selected to coach the Crossroads Diamond Club High School All Star Game.
At Jones, Glaze’s teams have broken the school record for wins four times with the best teams in 2001 and 2002. In 2002 the Bobcats won the Mississippi State Championship and were the runner up in Region 23. Glaze was named the Mississippi JUCO Baseball Coach of the Year in 2002.
Coach Glaze is a 1971 graduate of Newton High School, where he played football and baseball. He graduated from Clarke College in 1973 where he also played baseball. Graduating from Mississippi College in 1975, Glaze received two letters in baseball, was selected Most Valuable Player, and elected permanent team co-captain. He received his Master’s Degree from William Carey in 1989.
Coach Glaze is married to the former Linda Blackwell of Laurel. They have two sons, Christopher and Jonathan, and a daughter, Marianna. |
