Don Skelton
Head Basketball Coach Jones Junior College

ELLISVILLE - Don Skelton will be entering his first year as head men’s basketball coach at Jones County Junior College. Skelton comes to JCJC after two years as an assistant coach at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He replaces Kyle Roane, who left after two years as head coach to become an assistant coach at Jacksonville State in Alabama.
Skelton has been at JCJC before, serving as an assistant coach to Marc Dukes from 1988-90. He is married to the former Tammy Pryor of Ellisville and they have one son, Trey. Skelton’s team this past season at Lamar posted a 19-11 mark and tied for the Southland Conference regular season crown.Skelton has posted some sterling numbers as a head basketball coach.
At Northwest, he was head coach from 1999-2006 and led the Rangers to five trips to the NJCAA Nationals in Hutchinson, Kan. He compiled a 198-56 (.779) record and led Northwest to five Region 23 titles, five District 16 titles, two MACJC state titles and five MACJC North Division championships.
He was head coach at Southwest from 1997-99, leading the Bears to a 22-9 record and a berth in the state and regional tournament in 1997-98. He was head basketball and head baseball coach at Lafayette County High School in Oxford in 1990-91 and was head basketball coach at Monroe High School in Tompkinsville, Ky., for five years.
Skelton has compiled a 322-161 (.667) overall record as a head coach.
Skelton, a native of Leland, was a four-year letterman at Mississippi College and played in every game during his career with the Choctaws. He was third in the Gulf South Conference in assists as a senior and was an Academic All-Gulf South Conference selection in 1986 and 1987.
He served as a graduate assistant at Mississippi College in 1987-88 before coming to JCJC as an assistant coach.

 


Casey Carter
Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Carter is beginning his first season at Jones County Junior College as the Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach.  Carter brings 4 years of coaching experience to JCJC.  His first coaching experience was as an assistant to Coach Kyle Roane at Forrest County Agricultural High School (2003 – 2005).  During his experience as an assistant at FCAHS, he helped lead the Aggies to back-to-back South State 4A postseason appearances.

Carter took over as Head Coach at Forrest County AHS in the fall of 2005and remained there until the spring of 2007.  While head coach, the Aggies again made back-to-back South State 4A appearances. 

Carter, a native of McComb, MS, graduated from North Pike High School in 1999 and Southwest MS Community College in 2001.  He then attended The University of Southern Mississippi where he was the manager for the Men’s Basketball team under the direction of Coach James Green (2002 – 2003).

Casey is married to Rebecca Carter of Brookhaven, MS.
