WORK BASED LEARNING/CO-OP PROCEDURES

After students have secured a WBL/Co-op job, the following procedures should be followed:

  • Student should talk to advisor about possibility of receiving credit for work-based learning/CO-OP.
  • Student should obtain application packet from WBL/CO-OP Coordinator.
  • Student should complete packet and return to coordinator.
  • Coordinator will check transcript and verify student information.
  • If student qualifies, student and advisor will be notified.
  • If a student does not qualify for the current semester, student is notified and packet is held for possible future placement.
  • When a student is placed in a position, student and advisor will complete information for WBL/CO-OP contract and course substitutions (if needed).
  • Student will obtain packet from coordinator which will include: instruction sheets, criteria for eligibility, grading system, advisor referral letter, education/training contract, student contract, and timesheets.  Student must register in the Work-Based Learning/CO-OP Office. Resumes are to be placed in your WBL/CO-OP folder.
  • Coordinator will need to make telephone contacts and on-site visits to industry during the semester. Employer will need to send student evaluations to coordinator who will make a copy and send to advisor. If a student is substituting Work-Based Learning/CO-OP for a course requirement, then an extra project (100 points) will be required and turned in to advisor. The advisor will grade the project and forward those points to the WBL/CO-OP Coordinator who will assign the final grade.
  • If student is going to work in the same position with the same industry the next semester, dates can be added to contract. Another contract will not be needed.
