Welcome to Jones College’s Work-Based Learning (WBL) Cooperative
(Co-op) Education Program. We look forward to working with you and we hope that your experience with our program will be positive.
The Work-Based Learning Program at JC recognizes that learning occurs throughout life, not just in the classroom. The program is designed to match students with jobs directly related to the students’ majors. Each year, about a hundred JC students gain an advantage they may not get in the classroom – practical, hands-on work experience. Because of this training, students are better qualified upon graduation to fill permanent, full-time positions with any company – perhaps even the company that gave them the experience.
At the workplace, students work closely with mentors who impart the skills and knowledge necessary for students to prosper in the field. Worksite supervisors, classroom instructors, and a WBL/Co-op coordinator work to guide and challenge students to perform well. Through these experiences, students learn the knowledge and skills appropriate to a specific career and the general work expectations of promptness, commitment, and persistence that can serve them in all careers.
The Student Employment Services office helps students who are interested in entering the work field during school or recently after graduating. In Work Based Learning, Apprenticeships, and Internships students can learn a variety of skills by expanding the classroom into the community with hands on career development experiences. Through these programs, students are afforded the opportunity to connect classroom instruction to the world of work and future career opportunities.
