The Construction Equipment Operations program prepares individuals to safely operate and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of construction equipment. The program also includes instruction in digging, ditching, sloping, stripping, grading, backfilling, clearing, excavating, and handling of materials.

The program consists of classroom instruction, hands-on maintenance training, and equipment operation. The curriculum is aligned with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Heavy Equipment Operations and Standards. Curriculum

How to Enroll

  • Step 1 - Complete a Jones Admissions Application. Applications can be completed online or mailed to: Jones College, Admissions Office, 900 South Court Street, Ellisville, MS 39437. 
  • Step 2 - Send an official copy of the final high school transcript, previous college transcript, and/or GED scores to the Jones Admissions Office.
  • Step 3 - Submit ACT/SAT scores to the Jones Admissions Office.
  • Step 4 -Applicants must receive a negative test result on drug screen test conducted by a certified laboratory and have the results submitted directly to the college.

CEV 1212 - Safety I
This course is designed to give students fundamental instruction on personal safety, fire safety, and rules of safety of each machine to include pre-start, operation, post-operation, and traffic. Includes performing equipment inspections for safe operation.

CEV 1222 Safety II
This course is a continuation of Safety I. It provides instruction in pedestrian safety, safety communications, and safety procedures in working near utilities.

CEV 1313 Service and Preventative Maintenance I
This course covers the characteristics of oils and greases, fuel handling procedures, and performing mechanical maintenance. Hands-on training will include servicing a fuel system and changing engine oil.

CEV 1323 Service and Preventative Maintenance II
In this course the students will learn lubrication procedures, servicing air filters, servicing cooling systems, servicing hydraulic systems, and installation, removal, and storage of batteries.

CEV 1416 Equipment Operation I
This course focuses on the application of proven management principles and techniques to the management of safety and health and loss control programs. The student will gain hands-on training in the operation of a dozer and excavator.

CEV 1426 Equipment Operation II
This course extends the students operating skills on dozers, excavators, and rough terrain forklifts. Includes the controls and basic skills performed with each machine and completing assignments by verbal and written instructions.

CEV 1514 Grade Work I
This course includes the setting and checking of grade stakes that are used on job sites. Instruction and practice of transferring elevations are also included. The student will learn how to properly calculate slopes and also cut and fill calculations.

CEV 1524 Grade Work II
Provides additional instruction and practice regarding the setting and checking of grades. Also gives instruction and practice on the compaction of various materials. This course also teaches students grading and installation practices for pipe-laying operations.
